Dear Black Man

You were born a king.

When you came out of your mother’s womb, you inherited the pressures of your father and his father and those before him. The color of your skin has been seen as a weapon to our society.

But I see it as a beauty.

Society believes your mind is empty and full of nothingness.

But I see intelligence and courage.

Society sees a brute.

But I see gentleness.

Society sees a thug.

But I see a man full of capability.

The people who hate you and kill you secretly want to be you.

They say you’re ignorant, but yet they speak like you.

They say you’re stupid, but yet they act like you.

They say your hair is nappy but yet they copy your style.

They say your lips are too big, but yet they desire yours over their own.

Do you need more convincing?

They refuse to tell you the truth. So I will.

The same God that loves them loves you.

They say you are weak; God says you’re strong.

They reject you; God says you are His.

They say you are useless; God created you with a purpose.

They say you are a failure; God says you are victorious.

Who are “They”?

Anyone who gives you oppression and judgment by the color of your skin.

Who are “You”?

You are a king. You can accomplish anything. You are a child of God.

They refuse to tell you the truth. So I will.

You were fearfully and wonderfully made.
